About Marianne

Despite the level of abstraction, the sculptures of Marianne van der Kooij definitely radiate a narrative soul. That narrative aspect is one of the most eye-catching qualities of her work.

The artist’s perception corresponds with the basic assumptions of classical sculpture, but never copies it. She brings sentiments and experiences in front of the footlights by using the imagery that fits in the present juncture. Marianne is not afraid of thoroughgoing deformations. In her art fantasy and figuration play a surprising give-and-go.

She keeps her reference framework as wide as possible. Influences from different cultures meet and shape manifold interactions. The sculptor succeeds in incorporating timeless and universal concepts in contemporary and modern sculpture.
